Every year in Burlington and West Burlington, as well as many other local towns to Southeast Iowa, citizens participate in Spring Cleaning. During this time, hundreds if not thousands of pounds of heavy winter clothing is thrown away. Much of which can be used by those living in poverty, to survive the next Fall/Winter cycle.
CODE RED noticed this gap, and in 2024 wanted to hold a small Coat Drive that turned into something so much more. Dozens of businesses participated, with the entire community coming together to donate everything from infant to 5XL coats. Nearly 20 volunteers showed up to work hard at helping with sign in sheets, personal shopping, and easing the anxiety of many of those in attendance seeking coats.
With the power of community, the Founders of CODE RED were able to create something incredible. There was a line out the door prior to the beginning, but the United Way of Southeast Iowa was able to interview them prior to beginning their first distribution day.

Starting September, CODE RED will begin their Final Collection.
During this time, September 1st to September 15th, we will be collecting coats at the multiple drop off locations. These locations will be announced shortly before the start, and businesses are encouraged to participate.
